TOKYO, Jan 23, 2023 - (JCN Newswire via SEAPRWire.com) - With the support of Fujitsu, the operators of the legendary Nurburgring are showing how history, the present and the future can be optimally combined - for greater safety using advanced AI technology. Especially on the one of the world's most challenging race tracks: the Nordschleife. There, the unique tourist drives in particular can become even safer. The first installations as well as tests and analyses for this groundbreaking project have already been underway for one year. HD cameras were installed along a 2.8-kilometer section and connected with fiberglass. Fujitsu developed an AI system that immediately registers safety-relevant incidents and forwards them to operations management. At future races, track days, tourist drives and test drives by the automotive industry, drivers can be warned immediately of dangers via LED displays on the track, so that everyone involved can assess the situation more quickly and react accordingly. After a year of successful test installations, the partners involved are now drawing a thoroughly positive balance, so that in the next two years the entire Nordschleife can be equipped with the AI-based system without any gaps. The new system is scheduled to be fully operational as early as the 2025 season and will then monitor around 21 kilometers of the Nordschleife."The project is of outstanding importance to us. It equips the world-renowned Nordschleife for the future in terms of safety. For us, it is one of the most extensive innovation measures in the soon-to-be 100-year history of the Nurburgring. Artificial intelligence is the best solution here, because no one would be able to monitor and evaluate the images from so many cameras in real time and take appropriate action. With Fujitsu, we have a partner that not only offers the necessary expertise and suitable solutions, but also shares our passion for this historic track," the managing directors of Nurburgring 1927 GmbH & Co. KG, Christian Stephani and Ingo Boder, explain. The Nordschleife is probably the best-known and longest permanent racetrack in the world. No fewer than 73 curves and particularly challenging sections make the almost 21-kilometer-long track so appealing. For racing drivers, but especially for private drivers who want to test their driving skills apart from the race dates, this is a real challenge. It is not without reason that the "Green Hell," as it was named by racing legend Jackie Steward, enjoys a very special reputation worldwide. In order to ensure the safety of drivers and the public, dangers and incidents are currently reported by radio announcements from so-called track marshals and signaled by waving flags. Naturally, valuable time passes until help is actually on the way and the track is closed if necessary. In the future, with help of the equipment with cameras and artificial intelligence, the aim is to support and accelerate these processes significantly and to lay the foundations for irregularities to be automatically detected and lead to appropriate measures in real time."Especially at the Nurburgring, where racing enthusiasm and tradition come together, safety is the top priority in the interest of professional and private drivers, as well as in the interest of the race track and the organizers. Perfect organization and well-rehearsed processes are already an important basis here. The use of smart technology makes the Nurburgring even safer and innovates the working environment of the employees in the area of track safety. This according to the well-known motto: "Everyone praises what Nurburgring tests", which not only applies to the automotive industry, but can now also be applied to the digital transformation and innovation of the track. Based on this solution, we are already discussing the application of the technology e.g. in public road traffic or other scenarios," Jorn Nitschmann, Head of Digital Transformation Unit DACH at Fujitsu Services GmbH sums up.For this solution, Fujitsu has taken an on-premises approach to ensure minimal system latency and uses a combination of AI methods to meet the specific requirements of the Nurburgring. The software includes AI object recognition to identify vehicles or people on the track. Through image segmentation, it can also distinguish between the race track, gravel and grass surfaces, as well as guardrails and safety fences. In the event of a safety issue, a downstream system alerts incident command and can trigger additional traffic light warnings and initial messages via LED displays at the track. Thanks to its modular design, the system is highly scalable and can be easily extended to new sections of track.About FujitsuFujitsu's purpose is to make the world more sustainable by building trust in society through innovation. Tokyo & Blacksburg, Nov 10, 2022 - (JCN Newswire via SEAPRWire.com) - NEC Corporation (TSE: 6701) and Virginia Tech Transportation Institute (VTTI) have successfully carried out a proof of concept (PoC) to provide safety information and warnings to drivers, pedestrians and other road users near intersections using Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based video analysis technologies. In the PoC conducted from June to September of this year, conditions inside and outside an intersection at the Virginia Smart Roads test track were analyzed using information gathered from cameras and video analysis equipment installed on traffic signal poles. NEC provided AI-based video analytics technology that can detect, categorize, and track road users such as vehicles, pedestrians, and bicycles around intersections. In addition, by integrating this technology with a C-V2X(1) system that notifies vehicles and pedestrians of safety information and warnings, the feasibility of an infrastructure-cooperative mobility service in which infrastructure and vehicles exchange information via wireless communication was evaluated.NEC and VTTI also worked on traffic safety use cases such as predicting collisions between vehicle and pedestrian, pedestrian crossing detection, and right/left turn vehicle detection. In these cases, vehicles were successfully notified within 0.5 seconds after the video analysis AI detected the possibility of a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian. This is expected to be useful in reducing traffic accidents by quickly communicating the risk of collisions at intersections with poor visibility, etc."This PoC combines state-of-the-art AI-based video analytical solutions with C-V2X technology to create social value that contributes to safety and security for vehicles and pedestrians in the vicinity of intersections. These technologies are capable of identifying hazardous situations in areas that can be blind spots for drivers and pedestrians and notifying them of such situations. NEC believes that this solution can contribute to a reduction in crashes and fatalities, as well as to supporting automated driving from roadside infrastructure," said Koji Kikuchi, Senior Director, Smart City Business Development Division, NEC."The concept of infrastructure-cooperative mobility that NEC is aiming for requires highly reliable, low-latency communications via a dedicated network to predict or detect incidents near intersections. VTTI believes this PoC will complement C-V2X technology and improve road safety by informing vehicles and pedestrians of possible traffic hazards when passing through an intersection. VTTI intends to work together with NEC to apply the results of this PoC to intersections on live public roads," said Mike Mollenhauer, Director of the Division of Technology Implementation at VTTI.(1) Cellular Vehicle-to-Everything (C-V2X): A 3GPP standard for V2X applications such as self-driving cars.About NEC CorporationNEC Corporation has established itself as a leader in the integration of IT and network technologies while promoting the brand statement of "Orchestrating a brighter world." Seoul, Korea, March 25, 2022 – (SEAPRWire) – GONGGANTECH is proud to announce the release of their newest model of earchquake-resistant ceiling lightweight steel frame, which will change the paradigm of construction. Established in 2002 as a construction company, GONGGANTECH Korea, develops construction safety technology and products based on 20-year know-how and experience in the construction industry. In particular, the level of GONGGANTECH’s technology for earthquake-resistant safety products is outstanding. Its product was awarded the presidential citation in 2018, selected as an excellent invention by Korean Intellectual Property Office in 2019, ranked in the top 10 excellent patents for industrialization in 2021, and certified as a promising small and medium-sized enterprise by the local government community. Attracting attention, the ‘Earthquake-Resistant Ceiling lightweight Steel Frame’ surpasses the limit of existing lightweight products, which have been used for the past 40 years and presents a new paradigm of lightweight steel structure. Existing products have been used even before the various equipment such as electricity, firefighting, communication, air conditioning, heating, and interior were installed in the ceiling. But those products did not consider the weight of equipment mentioned above and workers’ weight for maintenance work, exceeding the load capacity, which can cause safety accidents. Also, their earthquake-resistant performance is inadequate, possibly causing damages due to the fall of ceiling structure and equipment when an earthquake occurs. ‘YES Hanger,’ which is the key element to ‘Earthquake-Resistant Ceiling lightweight Steel Frame’ features a one-touch installment that completely prevents loosening of the nuts on upper and lower parts of the hanger. In addition, it blocks the moving of angle bars and carrying bars on the upper area to prevent changes in structure and sagging ceiling due to earthquakes and various vibrations in daily life. It was tested and proved for earthquake resistance in the international standard earthquake resistance test site in Korea’s Center for Seismic Safety. And it was confirmed that the structure remains safe even in 1.3g and seismic intensity 10. In addition, the product structure evenly distributes the weight to remain strong against vertical load and stably supports equipment and the weight of workers in the ceiling, preventing accidents like ceiling collapse. Its maintenance is also convenient. The integrated structure of Yes Hanger increases safety against earthquake and load without the need for combining pins. The simplified process of assembling the parts increases convenience. Using M bar, T bar, and clip bars, it is applicable to various shapes of ceiling and construction environment. Furthermore, ISO9001 quality management certification proves that it is a versatile product that never fails in quality management. ‘Earthquake resistant OK pipe hanger’ that was launched with ‘Earthquake-Resistant Ceiling lightweight Steel Frame’ is the world’s first hanger with anti-loose nuts adjustable to different heights. It has a high level of convenience and safety structure for installation to be selected as an excellent product in the 19th Korea Safety Awards. With their safety, workability, and convenience for maintenance, these two products from GONGGANTECH Korea are differentiated from other existing products with its innovation. GONGGANTECH Korea aims to set a new standard for advanced construction safety and welcomes overseas partners for exportation. SINGAPORE - Households should not use ultraviolet-C (UVC) disinfection devices for their homes as many lack safety features that protect users from exposure to UV radiation, the National Environment Agency (NEA) warned on Tuesday (Nov 23). To prevent accidental exposure and health risks, the agency advised the public not to buy any UVC steriliser product that has no safety features. It added that UVC-based disinfection should be applied only in an industrial or commercial setting with appropriate safety features and safe use practices. Common uses for such devices include the sterilisation of mobile phones, jewellery and home surfaces. Exposure to UVC radiation due to inappropriate use or unsafe sterilisers can cause eye or skin injuries. These include damage to the cornea, with burning sensations and sensitivity to light, as well as burns resulting in redness and skin peeling. "Since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, there has been growing demand for and availability of UVC disinfection devices," NEA said in its advisory. Households buying such sterilisers for disinfection purposes should choose only those with safety engineering features that prevent users from being exposed to UVC radiation. Examples include motion sensors for portable, tube and desk lamps, as well as bulbs, that automatically switch off the UVC sources when a person approaches them, and gravity sensors in handheld UVC sterilisers and portable UVC wands that automatically switch them off when the devices face upwards, protecting the user's eyes. For UVC disinfection boxes, there should be safety features that turn off the UVC light when the box is open. NEA advised users to avoid direct skin exposure to UVC radiation and avoid looking directly into a UVC light source. It also urged those who have bought a UVC steriliser without any safety features to stop using it immediately, especially if it is intended for use on the skin. MUNICH, Jul 14, 2021 - (JCN Newswire via SEAPRWire.com) - In the future, the Nuerburgring circuit could benefit from advanced artificial intelligence-supported safety features thanks to Fujitsu. A complex deployment of HD cameras, real-time AI analysis and instant alert systems mean that both RaceControl and drivers can be immediately notified of incidents on this challenging racetrack section - nicknamed the - green hell by Formula One driver Sir Jackie Stewart. The iconic Nordschleife (North Loop) is the most famous of the Nuerburgring's two racetracks. The 20.8-kilometer track features a total of 73 turns, including blind corners, drops and significant elevation changes - and is consequently considered by many to be one of the most challenging in the world. Historically, in the event of an incident, such as a vehicle leaving the track, race marshals relied on radio and communication with the marshals on the track to relay the information back to RaceControl and make decisions. In contrast to the Grand Prix circuit, the Nordschleife has not yet been equipped with cameras and is therefore out of sight from RaceControl. This meant it was often difficult to assess and react to issues quickly - and with up to several hundred vehicles simultaneously on the track, the stakes are high in making the right call.Rollout starts with a 2.8km test section at the Doettinger HoeheThe staged rollout plan for this ambitious track digitalization project has started with a 2.8km test section known as the "Doettinger Hoehe" with the installation of eight HD cameras by the Nuerburgring. In addition to the existing camera infrastructure on the Grand Prix circuit, coverage of the entire Nordschleife will require more than 100 cameras. However, the sheer number of cameras means the circuit cannot easily be monitored reliably by humans. The Fujitsu solution is based on cameras installed by the Nuerburgring, connected to RaceControl via fibre optic cables. To support the decision-making process, Fujitsu is developing an artificial intelligence system that leverages AI to monitor all the video feeds in real time, and flag any potential dangers it identifies. When potential issues are spotted, the system instantly notifies RaceControl and switches to the relevant video feeds while simultaneously giving the opportunity to notify approaching traffic, for example by using trackside LED displays.Joern Nitschmann, Head of Manufacturing and Automotive Central Europe at Fujitsu, comments: "The Nuerburgring has a well-earned reputation for being difficult to navigate, leading to the saying 'Everyone praises what the Nuerburgring tests'. This project certainly presented some challenges - including the need for continuous power and bandwidth in the middle of the Eifel mountains. However, the Nuerburgring's race safety expertise, combined with our experience specifying, developing and installing complex AI solutions, has proven to be the perfect co-creation team. Our collaboration transforms the safety of this notoriously difficult racetrack, by leveraging digital transformation expertise proven in other industries."Mirco Markfort, Nuerburgring Managing Director, says: "Racing events have been held at the Nuerburgring Nordschleife for almost one hundred years, and we've invested heavily over the years to maximize the safety of thousands of drivers who test their abilities here every year. Thanks to our cooperation with Fujitsu, drivers will be safer than ever. Not only do we have visibility over portions of the track for the first time, but artificial intelligence can also generate automated notifications in real-time. The first live test of the track infrastructure was at the legendary 24-hour endurance race held at the beginning of June. Now we are collecting data from the test sector, and continuing to develop the solution based on these insights. We are also planning to develop and roll out this revolutionary technology to the rest of the track."Fujitsu continues to develop the AI system - teaching it to recognize vehicles, and identify the different parts of the track and immediate surroundings including gravel, grass and guardrails. The AI is also being trained to detect anomalies on the track, such oil, dirt or debris, and to cope with weather conditions such as rain or shadows. For more information, visit bit.ly/2VLqlbT. SINGAPORE (THE BUSINESS TIMES) - Singapore has inked a deal with drugmaker GlaxoSmithKline Singapore and clinical-stage immunology firm Vir Biotechnology for the supply of a medication for patients with mild to moderate Covid-19. The advance purchase agreement is for the supply of sotrovimab, an investigational single-dose monoclonal antibody administered through intravenous infusion, GSK Singapore said in a statement on Wednesday (June 29). It is used to treat Covid-19 patients who do not need supplemental oxygen but are at risk of progressing to severe disease. Sotrovimab is currently undergoing regulatory review by the Health Sciences Authority for interim authorisation under the Pandemic Special Access Route (PSAR), GSK Singapore said. The medication was, on May 26, granted emergency-use authorisation by the United States Food and Drug Administration; the European Medicines Agency's Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use has also issued a positive scientific opinion. The British drugmaker's PSAR application includes data from an interim analysis of efficacy and safety data from its phase three trial, which it said was stopped early by an independent data-monitoring committee in March due to evidence of "profound clinical efficacy". "Results of the interim analysis, based on data from 583 randomised patients, demonstrated an 85 per cent reduction in hospitalisation or death in those receiving sotrovimab compared to placebo, the primary endpoint of the trial," GSK Singapore said. It noted that the PSAR review will also consider the medicine's quality and safety data, adding that final results from its efficacy trial will be available later this year. Preclinical data has suggested that sotromivab targets a conserved epitope of the Sars-CoV-2 spike protein, which is less likely to mutate over time, GSK said. Dr Phil Pang, chief medical officer of Vir, said the treatment appears to "retain activity against all circulating variants of concern", including the highly transmissible Delta variant which originated from India, based on data from several in vitro studies. Mr Mike Crichton, senior vice-president for speciality and primary-care therapy area at GSK, said vaccines, together with treatments like sotrovimab, have the potential to increase the chance of ending the pandemic, as variants of the coronavirus continue to arise. GSK and Vir are in discussions with other governments to explore similar supply agreements, as countries accelerate their vaccine and therapeutics programmes against Covid-19, the company said. SINGAPORE - Exemplary motorists who are spotted by the traffic police driving safely or performing acts of courtesy on the road will be given a Covid-19 care pack, as part of a month-long road safety campaign. The theme of the campaign, which ends on June 27, is Road Safety for All. Along with the Spot the Safe Motorist programme that rewards good motorists, the campaign will focus on raising awareness of running red lights and speeding offences. The campaign was launched on Friday (May 28) by the Singapore Road Safety Council (SRSC) and the traffic police, with support from the Land Transport Authority, Ministry of Education, People's Association and Automobile Association of Singapore. Minister of State for Home Affairs and National Development Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim was the guest of honour at the virtual launch. He said: "Singapore Road Safety Council and Traffic Police will launch the Spot the Safe Motorist programme to encourage motorists to be alert and courteous while driving. Traffic Police patrol officers will stop motorists who exhibit good driving behaviours - not to give them a ticket, but to reward them with a Covid-19 care pack." The care pack includes a small pouch, pack of antiseptic wet wipes, travel-size hand sanitiser, bottle of pocket hand sanitiser, reusable face mask and road safety brochure. Two road safety videos highlighting the consequences of running a red light and speeding will be aired on national television, as well as SRSC's Facebook page and YouTube channel. SRSC chairman Bernard Tay said: "We should always remember that the road is a common space shared by various road users.
