MANCHESTER (AFP) - Pep Guardiola has warned Kevin De Bruyne that he faces a fight to win back a regular place in the Manchester City side after a campaign marred by injuries and a coronavirus infection. The Belgium midfielder returned to action as a substitute against Watford on Saturday (Dec 4) but has been told he will start Tuesday's Champions League match in Leipzig, City's final fixture in Group A. The 30-year-old suffered ankle ligament damage at Euro 2020 that prevented him from starting a Premier League game until late September but was just starting to find his form when he tested positive for Covid-19. "Kevin, at the moment he got coronavirus, was growing in his physical condition and it was a setback," Guardiola said on Monday. "But that is normal because people who have suffered coronavirus, in the next days, feel so empty. "It is step by step. He played his first 30 minutes and tomorrow he will start. We'll see how many minutes he can play." Despite his pedigree, De Bruyne will have to battle for a starting spot at a club where competition for starting places is intense, with Bernardo Silva described by Guardiola as the best player in the Premier League at the moment. "He has to come back and fight for a position like everyone else," said Guardiola. "Kevin doesn't have to show absolutely anything to me but he has to come back to being himself and show himself he's back, and do what he has to do. Like he has done the last five or six years, every single three days. "Of course the competition is so necessary and he knows it, but Bernardo knows it, and (Ilkay) Gundogan knows it, and all the wingers and strikers know it. "They know they have to play good, (whether) playing five minutes, 10 minutes or 90 minutes." City have already secured top spot in Group A and Guardiola is likely to make a number of changes for the game in Germany, confirming that youngsters Cole Palmer, James McAtee, Romeo Lavia, Joshua Wilson-Esbrand and Conrad Egan-Riley will travel. "For them it's an incredible experience to be in Europe and see how the opponents behave, how good they are," he said. "Maybe tomorrow some of them can play minutes because we have five substitutions." A decentralized, blockchain solution for the legal confirmation of events: now available on Google Play and Apple App Stores Toronto, Ontario / December 6, 2021 / SEAPRWire / – Tech-based firm, UBIX Network, revamps their multi-platform decentralized service – SilentNotary (token name: UBSN) – with a state-of-the-art, blockchain mobile application that enables users to keep records of events and entities for legal confirmation. Event here refers to an image, a document, a video file, an email, and/or instant messaging communications. The mobile app is available for download on Android’s Google Play Store and Apple App Store. The objective of SilentNotary is to ensure that its users can prove that their transactions and/or dealings took place, and thus, are authentic. With SilentNotary, users can do this anytime, anywhere, and at their convenience. SilentNotary removes the need for notaries, for confirmation. The app’s seamless user interface allows for users to store and obtain the necessary detail/evidence to help prove that an event actually occurred between parties, and that the outcome can be trusted. To demonstrate the app’s ease of use, users can download the app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store, launch the app, and then record their ‘events’ and ‘entities’. Thereafter, users can upload their records/details – including the exact date, time and content – for notarization. The company’s new Director of Marketing and Public Relations, Vadim Germanovich, captured the primary motive behind the re-invigorated application, in his statement: “With the re-release of the UBSN Silent Notary application, we are one step closer to being able to demonstrate the real-life value of our network, as well as the UBSN token itself.” SilentNotary’s technology replicates the real-life functions of a notary via its custom hybrid, Directed Acyclic Graph (‘DAG’) blockchain system. Through the use of this pioneering technology, legal evidence – once notarized – can be utilized to prove that an event (which may be a contract or any other legal deal) took place, without hiring a ‘human notary’ to serve as a witness. The technology eliminates the likelihood of deliberate falsification and/or distortion of details by individuals. Germanovich also reiterated UBIX Network’s commitment towards improving global legal environment through various projects, such as the SilentNotary app: “I believe that actions speak louder than words, and the continued progression shown by our developer team is a clear indication of our company’s pursuit for excellence.” About the SilentNotary App – The app automatically executes the functions of a notary. – The app can be used through the Native Ubikiri Wallet system. – The app utilizes a custom, hybrid DAG blockchain system to record events. – The app is presently available on both the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store. – Silent Notary is part of the custom UBIX Network ecosystem. Future Plans / Prospects UBIX Network is making plans to test the app for optimization and upgrade its functionalities where necessary, in order to provide users with a more enhanced and seamless experience. PRISTINA (REUTERS) - Goals from Pablo Fornals and Ferran Torres earned Spain a 2-0 victory away to Kosovo in World Cup qualifying Group B on Wednesday (Sept 8) and dragged them back into automatic qualification contention. Fornals produced a fine near-post finish from the angle on 32 minutes after smart build-up play from Carlos Soler and Alvaro Morata. Spain dominated the ball for large swathes of the game, but were almost undone on numerous occasions as their high defensive line was exploited by the hosts. They were indebted to profligate finishing, in particular from Vedat Muriqi, who ran clear on goal but put his shot wide of Unai Simon's left-hand post. Simon then almost gifted the hosts an equaliser as he raced out of his box to meet a long ball over the top, only to get in a muddle with Inigo Martinez. The Athletic Bilbao stopper was just able to scramble back and stop Florian Loshaj's goalbound effort to keep Spain ahead. It proved a crucial save as Torres went on to seal the win in the 90th minute from a counter-attack. After initially being flagged offside, the goal was awarded following a VAR check. "It was a tough fought game right until the end," defender Aymeric Laporte said. "Getting that second at the end was liberating in difficult conditions. The pitch was a tricky to play our football on. "They've got their own weapons, and some quick forwards, but the important thing is we got the result. We need to win all our remaining games if we want to top the group." SINGAPORE - National shuttlers Loh Kean Yew and Yeo Jia Min's quest for success at the Olympic Games received a boost on Thursday (July 9) after they were handed favourable draws in the men's and women's singles. The draw for the badminton competition at the Musashino Forest Sports Plaza was released by Badminton World Federation on Thursday.. World No. 42 Loh will play in Group G against Indonesia's Jonatan Christie (7th) and refugee athlete Aram Mahmoud (172nd), a Syrian who plays under the Dutch flag. While Loh has not beaten Asian Games champion Christie in three previous encounters, he did pinch a set in each of those defeats. This will be his first meeting with Mahmoud. His group draw also means that he will avoid big guns like Japanese world No. 1 and hot favourite Kento Momota, China's Rio 2016 men's singles champion Chen Long and Denmark's bronze medallist Viktor Axelsen. Loh, 24, said: "I would say it's a good draw. I last played him at the Thailand Open in January so at least it's someone that I played recently, and I can gauge his standards better compared to those whom I have not met before or for a long time. "In any case, every game at the Olympics is important. I will go into the tournament giving it my best and fight all the way." In the women's singles, world No. 30 Yeo is in Group K with South Korean Kim Ga-eun (18th) and Mexican Haramara Gaitan (92nd). Likewise, she has dodged the world's top 10 including Chinese Taipei's world No. 1 Tai Tzu-ying and China's world No. 2 Chen Yu Fei. The 22-year-old holds a 3-1 head-to-head record against Kim and will play Gaitan for the first time at Tokyo 2020. In the singles events, players are divided into 14 groups of three to four players for round-robin matches and the top-ranked player will advance to the knockout round. A total of 87 male and 86 female players representing 50 national Olympic committees will feature at these Olympics, with Rio 2016 men's singles champion Chen Long of China the only defending champion across five categories. The July 24-Aug 2 badminton competition will be held at the Musashino Forest Sports Plaza. LONDON (AFP) - Zhang Zhizhen qualified for Wimbledon on Thursday (June 24) to become the first Chinese man in the Open era to play in the Grand Slam tournament. The 24-year-old defeated Argentina's Francisco Cerundolo 6-0, 6-3, 6-7 (4/7), 7-6 (8/6) in the final round of qualifying to make the main draw. Ranked 178 in the world, Shanghai native Zhang is the only Chinese man in the world top 250. He is also only the fourth Chinese man to play singles in the main draw of a Grand Slam since 1968 after Wu Di at the Australian Open in 2013, 2014 and 2016, Zhang Ze at the Australian Open in 2014 and 2015, and Li Zhe at the 2019 Australian Open. Until Thursday, Zhang had tried and failed to qualify for this year's Australian Open and French Open. "My full name is too hard for people to say, so I just tell them to say whatever they want to call me and I will respond," he said recently when explaining his nickname of 'ZZZ'. "Then it became 'ZZZ' because there are three Zs in my name. It is much easier for people outside of China to say. And it sounds cool. Triple-Z. I also like to sleep, so 'ZZZ' is perfect." Unlike China's men, the country's women have shone at the Slams with Li Na winning the French Open in 2011 and Australian Open three years later. Li made the quarter-finals at the All England Club in 2006, 2010 and 2013 while Zheng Jie reached the 2008 semi-finals. BUDAPEST (REUTERS) - Cristiano Ronaldo came to Portugal’s rescue with two penalties to cancel out a brace from France’s Karim Benzema in an enthralling 2-2 draw that sent both sides into the Euro 2020 last 16 in a breathless conclusion to Group F on Wednesday (June 23). A nerve-jangling night for the reigning European champions saw them occupy every position in the group at various junctures but the 36-year-old Ronaldo, so often his country’s saviour, stepped up again to reach yet another career milestone. Two spot-kick conversions – in the 31st and 60th minutes – took him to 109 international goals, level with the record number scored by Iran’s Ali Daei. Benzema’s first was also from the spot as for the first time in Euros history a match had three penalties. The Frenchman, recalled by manager Didier Deschamps for the tournament after a five-year international exile, equalised on the stroke of halftime and put France ahead two minutes after the interval. With Hungary leading against Germany at that point, Portugal were bottom of Group F and heading home. But Ronaldo coolly beat Hugo Lloris again from 12 yards and Portugal held on for the draw which means they finished on four points in third place and can now prepare for a last-16 clash against Belgium in Seville. France, whose attack finally clicked, topped a crazy group with five points and will take on Switzerland in Bucharest. “It was a fight and it wasn’t easy. We gave them the two goals from mistakes. We tried to win it,” said France manager Didier Deschamps, whose side were in danger of a last-16 clash with England at Wembley when they fell behind. “It means we’re top and that’s the best position.” Every scenario The Euro 2020 format has been criticised but there is no doubt that it produced a gripping night in which every conceivable scenario seemed to come into play. Portugal had only needed to avoid defeat to be sure of a last-16 spot but after bossing the first half with recalled Renato Sanches and Joao Moutinho commanding in midfield, they diced with danger after the break. In the end, they could breath a sigh of relief, though, as they go into the business end of the tournament they won by beating France in Paris in the 2016 final. France began brightly with Paul Pogba sending Mbappe through for a shot saved by Rui Patricio, But Portugal were awarded a penalty in the 27th minute after Hugo Lloris’ attempted punched clearance wiped out Danilo. France were rattled and Portugal began to play with some swagger but they were pegged back when referee Antonio Mateu Lahoz deemed that Nelson Semedo had bundled over Kylian Mbappe on the stroke of halftime as he tried to latch on to Pogba’s pass. Benzema buried the penalty and two minutes after the break he was picked out by Pogba again and the Real Madrid striker, shown to be just onside by a VAR check, slotted the ball past Rui Patricio for his 29th goal for France. Now it was Portugal on the ropes in the Puskas Arena as France’s fearsome attack began to play with freedom. But the game’s third penalty, awarded for a handball by Jules Kounde, gave Ronaldo the chance to beat Lloris again from the spot to register his fifth goal of the tournament. FORT WORTH, TEXAS (REUTERS) - Phil Mickelson may have struggled at Colonial Country Club on Thursday (May 27) in his first start since becoming golf's oldest major champion but did not appear too bothered as he was still revelling in his PGA Championship victory. The 50-year-old Mickelson shot a three-over-par 73 in Fort Worth, Texas, that left him near the bottom of the field at the Charles Schwab Challenge. "Yeah, I didn't play well. I shot three-over. But I won the PGA, so..." Mickelson said in response to the first question of his post-round news conference. In case anyone had not heard him, Mickelson, who bogeyed two of his first three holes and struggled with his tee shots and putting, offered another reminder of his feat while answering the second question. "You can't play this course out of the rough because then you have tree trouble, which I had repeatedly, and I didn't putt well," said Mickelson. "But I won the PGA, so I'll see if I can get it turned around for tomorrow." As Mickelson, in his final PGA Tour event before seeking the final leg of the career Grand Slam at the June 17-20 U.S. Open, made his way around the course he was constantly congratulated by fans for his PGA Championship win. "It feels incredible because it's been a long time since somebody has congratulated me for my play," said Mickelson. "That's a moment, that's a week, that's a tournament, that's a win that I'll cherish forever. I enjoy when people say that." ROME (REUTERS) - World number one Novak Djokovic was furious with the chair umpire for not suspending play as rain trickled down during his Italian Open second-round match against American Taylor Fritz on Tuesday (May 11). The 33-year-old Serb made his feelings clear after he was broken when serving for victory in the second set. "How much do you wanna play?," Djokovic yelled at umpire Nacho Forcadell. "I asked you three times, you are not checking anything." The match was eventually suspended for three hours before Djokovic secured a 6-3 7-6(5) victory. All the other men's matches for the day were cancelled. Djokovic said he had been struggling with the court conditions before the players were sent off the court at 5-5 in the second set. "It's not the first time or probably the last that I'm going to experience such conditions," Djokovic, who has received an opening-round bye this week, told Amazon Prime. "And even with that much experience behind me I still get upset and lose my cool. But it's OK. At the end of the day these are great lessons - I will try and take away some important things from this day." Djokovic was disqualified from last year's US Open after accidentally hitting a female line judge with a ball during his fourth-round match against Spain's Pablo Carreno Busta. Chasing a sixth title in Rome, Djokovic will play the winner of the match between Britain's Cameron Norrie and Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the round of 16.
