SINGAPORE - A senior vice president (VP) of Singpost allegedly cheated the company for more than four years, getting them to pay him more than $800,000 in salaries. Liang An Wey, 46, is also alleged to have attempted to get $1 million in bribes from a contractor after he was made a senior VP of the company. On Tuesday (May 11), he was slapped with one charge for corruption and another for cheating. According to court documents, Liang deceived Singpost into believing he was employed by private firm GSM Holdings between 2012 and June 2013 at a salary of $14,500. He allegedly submitted the false information in his job application to Singpost in 2013. Singpost then paid him a monthly salary of $15,000 for a total of 56 months. The total amount he was paid in the position over the period was $840,000. In March 2015, as a senior VP of Singpost, he attempted to obtain a bribe of $1 million from the chief operating officer of Bintai Kindenko, a mechanical and engineering contractor. The bribe was allegedly to have been in return for him recommending Bintai Kindenko as a sub-contractor for the construction works involved in the redevelopment of the Singpost Centre Retail Mall and works related to the Singpost Office Asset Enhancement Initiative. He is currently out on $5,000 bail and is expected to be back in court for a further mention of the case on June 8. If convicted of cheating, he may be jailed for up to 10 years and fined. If convicted of corruption, he may be jailed for up to five years, or fined up to $100,000, or both. SINGAPORE - The 21-year-old who skipped a court appearance on Monday (March 22) where he was supposed to enter his plea over sexual assault charges has been arrested. Police said he was picked up on Tuesday, the same day they detained another 21-year-old man for allegedly harbouring him. The fugitive is one of two men accused of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl when she became drunk after a game of Truth Or Dare. His co-accused has already pleaded guilty to raping the girl. The man faces one count of attempted rape and two counts of sexual assault by penetration. The parties in the case cannot be named because of a gag order to protect the victim's identity. The accused was 18 years old when he allegedly committed the offences on Oct 17, 2017, at the foot of a Housing Board block in Pasir Ris Street 51. The court heard that the accused had gone missing on Monday after having breakfast with his father and lawyer. The court hearing was scheduled for 10am. At around 9.10am, he complained of an upset stomach and left for the toilet. He then could not be found, and also did not respond to phone calls and text messages. A warrant of arrest was issued by the High Court the same day. It has not been determined if the $30,000 bail his father posted for him will be forfeited. The police on Wednesday said they are investigating the accused for additional offences. His associate will be charged in court with harbouring an offender. When the group left the block, the girl had to be piggybacked, as she was too drunk to walk properly. At about 4am, the two accused and the girl were separated from the others who had gone ahead. SINGAPORE - A man was charged on Thursday (Dec 31) with attempted murder after a woman was found injured on Wednesday. Lee Song Chua, 59, who was charged in hospital, is accused of trying to kill a 48-year-old woman. Police said in an earlier statement that officers received a call for assistance at a home in Pari Dedap Walk, near Upper Changi Road, around 8am on Wednesday. When the police arrived at the scene, officers found the woman wounded on the floor outside the unit. She was taken conscious to hospital and her condition was stable. Preliminary investigations found that the suspect and the victim know each other. Officers later arrested Lee inside the home. Lee's case has been adjourned to Jan 7 next year. If convicted of attempted murder, he can either be jailed for life or jailed for up to 20 years and fined.
