To Develop Japan’s First Blood Biomarker-Based Diagnostic Workflow for Dementia Shimadzu, Eisai, Oita University, and Usuki City Medical Association Commence Joint Research

TOKYO, Nov 22, 2022 - (JCN Newswire via SEAPRWire.com) - Shimadzu Corporation (Shimadzu), Eisai Co., Ltd. (Eisai), Oita University, and Usuki City Medical Association hereby announce the commencement of a cohort study using Usuki City as a demonstration site. This joint study will attempt to develop Japan's first diagnostic workflow for mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and Alzheimer's disease (AD) that uses blood biomarkers. In accordance with "Guidelines for Proper Use of Cerebrospinal Fluid and Blood Biomarkers in Dementia"(1), this study aims to demonstrate the utility of blood biomarkers and improve the early diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease within a coordinated system of medical care that encompasses primary care physicians and specialists who are members of dementia-related medical societies. In cases of Alzheimer's disease, which is said to account for more than 60% of dementia cases, amyloid beta (Abeta, a protein thought to cause AD) starts aggregating in the brain around 20 years before AD onset. Positron emission tomography (amyloid PET) and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) testing are used to estimate the degree of Aβ accumulation in the brain, but only a limited number of facilities are capable of performing these investigations and the high cost of testing and physical stress involved due to the invasiveness of these investigations also pose a challenge. The increased use of blood biomarkers is expected to reduce the burden on patients.Study SchemaUsuki City Medical Association will recruit applicants (50 years and older) who wish to participate in the study. Primary care physicians affiliated with Usuki City Medical Association will perform simple cognitive function tests on applicants and select around 200 people with suspected MCI or mild dementia. Specialists affiliated with Usuki City Medical Association Cosmos Hospital (Cosmos Hospital) will then take an in-depth medical history and perform more detailed cognitive function tests before making a final selection of 100 subjects with MCI or mild dementia who are suspected of having Alzheimer's disease. Shimadzu will be responsible for analyzing and evaluating blood biomarker data obtained using Shimadzu's Amyloid MS CL system for measuring amyloid peptides in blood (Amyloid MS CL)(2). Primary care physicians affiliated with Usuki City Medical Association and specialists affiliated with Cosmos Hospital will present and explain test results to participants, evaluate the psychological impact of these results, and provide ongoing medical care as needed. At the Department of Neurology, Faculty of Medicine, Oita University, detailed cognitive function tests will be performed, a self-assessed measurement of brain health will be performed using the "NouKNOW"(3) tool developed by Eisai, Aβ accumulation will be checked by amyloid PET, and the utility of blood biomarkers will be verified. Eisai will use its expertise in dementia research to propose ideas and assist with study planning and provide advice on methods of analyzing and reviewing test results and psychological impact. All four parties will combine findings from evaluating the clinical performance of blood biomarkers and the psychological effects of disclosing test results to ascertain the acceptability of blood biomarkers under actual clinical conditions. With this joint research, the four parties aim to establish a new diagnostic workflow for Alzheimer's disease that is based on blood biomarkers and includes primary care physicians. Through this work, the four parties are committed to building an ecosystem that improves the early detection of Alzheimer's disease and to developing social infrastructure that allows those concerned and their families to live in peace and security.(1) Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare Grants for Scientific Research, Study Group, March 31, 2021. www.neurology-jp.org/guidelinem/pdf/dementia_biomarker.pdf(2) Amyloid MS CL is a product that measures amyloid peptides (the main component of amyloid plaques, which are a characteristic feature of Alzheimer's disease) in the blood and provides biomarker data related to amyloid beta levels. In June 2021, Amyloid MS CL was the first product to measure amyloid peptides with a mass spectrometric technique to be approved for use as a medical device in Japan.(3)""NouKNOW" (non-medical equipment) is a tool developed by Eisai for the self-assessment of brain health (brain performance). Indonesia Market Poised for Big Growth in Streaming

JAKARTA, Oct 11, 2022 - (ACN Newswire via SEAPRWire.com) - For the first time in three years the Asia Video Industry Association (AVIA) returned to Jakarta to host Indonesia in View 2022, an event that welcomed some of the industry's biggest players for a day of discussions dissecting the opportunities for growth in this expansive market.Opening comments were made by Yuliandre Darwis, Commissioner with the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI) who talked about the development of the KPI over the last twenty years, and the hope for revisions to the broadcasting law which could see greater responsibilities given to them.Highlights of the Indonesia in View Report, to be published by AVIA, were given by Bettina Cavenagh, President Director, Clarity Research Indonesia, outlining the state of Indonesia's video markets in the post-pandemic economy. Pay television had plateaued and while DTH services were the biggest victims of increased broadband penetration, cable numbers were increasing meaning the overall pay TV market remained significant, even if ARPU's were under pressure. But all eyes were now on the premium OTT market. Subscription Video on Demand (SVOD) has grown by more than 50% from 2020 to 2021, to 11.5M subscribers, while digital advertising grew by 33% over the same period. This set the scene for much debate throughout the conference on the relative merits of the subscription versus the advertising led business model for OTT.In a conversation around growth and monetization, Hermawan Sutanto, COO of Vidio talked of the need to educate the market to pay for premium OTT services and Guntur Siboro, Country Head for Lionsgate Play further made the point that ad supported VOD (AVOD) was a different ballgame which required significant investment to monetise successfully. Whatever the business model, Avijit Duta, Deputy Country Manager for Viu, emphasized the need for the business to be sustainable and everyone was witnessing rising production costs as the production talent pool was still limited today. In his keynote conversation, Sutanto Hartono, Managing Director of EMTEK and CEO of SCM and Vidio, discussed Vidio's emphasis on local originals and live sports as differentiators in their quest to acquire customers and keep churn down. While sports rights were expensive and not owned in perpetuity, they played a crucial role in a growth strategy. Marlo Budiman, CEO & President Director, Link Net, later added that while the pay TV market had plateaued, its death knell had not quite sounded yet and also attributed this to the role of sports and original content keeping OTT churn low.Clarissa Tanoesoedibjo, Managing Director of MNC's Vision+, also talked about the importance of local original content and that Vision+ was increasing their investment in this sector for the service. She also pointed out that while Vision+ was primarily subscription led, the accompanying RCTI+ service was advertising led. There was little doubt about the importance advertising played in the growth prospects for the market when Gavin Buxton, Managing Director, Asia for Magnite, Florencia Eka, Country Manager, Client Services, for The Trade Desk, and Lesley Simpson, Country Manager for WeTV and iflix Indonesia, got together. They agreed that OTT was the natural evolution of TV and provided unique opportunities for digital advertisers given the engagement with viewers. And while fragmentation of services was an issue, it was clear that there was more than enough scale in premium OTT as they looked forward to sustained growth in the sector.Indonesia in View is generously sponsored by Gold Sponsors A+E Networks, Vidio and Vision+ and Silver Sponsors Akamai, Broadpeak, CDNetworks, Conviva, INVIDI, Irdeto, NAGRA, SES, TV5MONDE and YouTube. Blockchain Maturity Model (BMM) Experts are Ready

Washington, DC, Aug 12, 2022 - (ACN Newswire via SEAPRWire.com) - The Government Blockchain Association (GBA) has trained its inaugural class of Blockchain Maturity Model (BMM) experts. These GBA BMM professionals will do Blockchain consulting and participate on Blockchain enterprise appraisals. GBA's first class of blockchain experts mean Blockchain Maturity evaluations are now underway. Why is the BMM Important?"Governments and organizations around the world are beginning to acquire blockchain solutions. But most do not have the knowledge or framework to distinguish between a reliable solution or a hyped prototype," said Gerard Dache, Executive Director of the Government Blockchain Association. "The BMM helps solution providers demonstrate credibility to customers and creates a roadmap for continuous improvement. Governments will often provide financial assistance to use the BMM to improve and demonstrate blockchain solutions."Why Do We Need a Blockchain Maturity Model?"Governments do not have the framework to judge blockchain solutions, they will default to traditional solution providers. Newer, agile, and innovative companies cannot compete with traditional government vendors. The Blockchain Maturity Model has been established to solve that problem," continued Dache. What is the Purpose of the Blockchain Maturity Model?- Provide a roadmap to establish, implement, maintain, and continually improve blockchain solutions- Demonstrate that a solution can be trusted to meet industry standards- Provide acquisition professionals with the information needed to evaluate blockchain solutions- Establish the criteria to achieve a Government Blockchain Association (GBA) certification Who Developed the BMM?The BMM was developed by the GBA Standards & Certification Working Group over a two-year span. This group includes 34 individuals from government and the private sector. Members of this group include Chief Information Officers, Chief Technical Officers, engineers, auditors, business executives and managers. To learn more about the Blockchain Maturity Model (BMM) visit https://gbaglobal.org/blockchain-maturity-model.Source: Plato Data Intelligence Platodata.io Copyright 2022 ACN Newswire. According to a survey conducted by a local online media HK01 in July of last year, more than 80% of the elderly respondents prefer to receive community care. Some studies have shown that community care is effective in preventing the deterioration of physical functions of the elderly due to premature admission to residential care. Besides, community care can save a considerable number of residential care costs. A three-hour private home care service costs more than a thousand Hong Kong dollars. In addition, environmental change may cause psychological stress on the elderly. Community care allows the elderly to stay connected with family and friends, which helps to maintain mental and social health.Along the onslaught of the fifth wave, outpatient services in hospitals and clinics were affected. "CAP is critically important to AVIA and the industry as a whole and I am delighted that in Matt we have such a seasoned and experienced executive taking over. Matt will bring his own ideas and energy to the role and I am confident CAP and the industry's anti-piracy efforts will grow in strength under him," said Louis Boswell, Chief Executive Officer, AVIA. Prior to working for the Premier League, Cheetham spent ten years as the Motion Picture Association's (MPA) Regional Legal Counsel and Assistant Policy Officer for APAC following which he was the Managing Director of the MPA's New Zealand office, the New Zealand Screen Association (NZSA) that oversaw all enforcement, policy and outreach efforts for MPA member companies in New Zealand. Tennis: Men’s tour backs WTA call for probe into Peng Shuai’s sexual assault allegations

(REUTERS) - The governing body of men's tennis (ATP) on Monday (Nov 15) backed the Women's Tennis Association's (WTA) call for China to investigate allegations of sexual assault made by Peng Shuai against a former Chinese vice premier. The WTA had called on China to investigate Peng's claims on Sunday, while also demanding an end to censorship of the former top-ranked doubles player. Peng, one of China's biggest sporting stars, alleged on her Weibo social media account on Nov 2 that Zhang Gaoli, who used to be a member of the Politburo Standing Committee - China's top decision-making body - coerced her into sex and they later had an on-off consensual relationship. Peng, 35, said in the post, which was deleted about half an hour after it was published, that she could provide no evidence to back her allegations. "There is nothing more important to us than the safety of our tennis community," ATP chairman Andrea Gaudenzi said in a statement on Monday. "We have been deeply concerned by the uncertainty surrounding the immediate safety and whereabouts of WTA player Peng Shuai. "We are encouraged by the recent assurances received by WTA that she is safe and accounted for and will continue to monitor the situation closely. "Separately, we stand in full support of WTA's call for a full, fair and transparent investigation into allegations of sexual assault against Peng Shuai." The United States Tennis Association (USTA) also backed the WTA's call for an investigation while commending Peng for her courage. "We call on responsible authorities in China to investigate the matter fully and to adjudicate it fairly," said the USTA. "We at the USTA commend Peng Shuai for speaking out and recognise her courage for doing so." The internet in China is heavily censored and the private lives of top leaders are an especially sensitive subject. Zhang, now 75, was a vice premier between 2013 and 2018 and served on the Politburo Standing Committee between 2012 and 2017. Concerns among the global tennis community have grown as Peng, the first Chinese player to top the world rankings when she was doubles number one in 2014, has not been seen since the post. Men's world number one Novak Djokovic said he was shocked by the incident. "I did hear about it a week ago. Honestly, it's shocking that she's missing, more so that it's someone that I have seen on the tour in the previous years quite a few times," the Serb said after his win over Casper Ruud at the ATP Finals on Monday. "It's not much more to say than hope that she will be found, that she's okay. It's terrible..., I can imagine just how her family feels that she's missing." In a statement on Sunday, WTA chairman and CEO Steve Simon said that the recent events were of deep concern. "Peng Shuai, and all women, deserve to be heard, not censored. Her accusation about the conduct of a former Chinese leader involving a sexual assault must be treated with the utmost seriousness," he said. China's State Council Information office and the Chinese Tennis Association did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the WTA's statement. More on this topic   Related Story Tennis: WTA calls on China to investigate Peng's sexual assault allegations   Related Story China censors tennis star Peng Shuai's claims against top politician Zhang Gaoli The International Tennis Federation also did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Hillview Heights condo management flagged by security association for discriminatory hiring practices

SINGAPORE - The managing agent of Hillview Heights condominium has been flagged by the Security Association Singapore for discrimination against non-Mandarin speakers and older workers in its tender for security services. In a Facebook post and statement to the press on Monday (Sept 6), the association highlighted clauses of the tender by Savills Property Management, which stipulate that a security agency must provide a "Chinese-speaking" security guard for more than six shifts each month, with those who speak dialect acceptable. Penalties for not complying include a warning letter and deduction of $100 per shift. The security agency could also be fined $100 if the guard provided is not within the age limit of 21 to 60 years old. The tender, which lasts a year from Nov 1 to Oct 31 next year, closed on Sept 3. The security association said that while there were other clauses that were of concern, it shared these particular ones "because they appear to penalise security agencies unless they exercise discrimination in their hiring and deployment of security officers". The statement said Mandarin and the dialects are not the same, "so what exactly is the job requirement here that Savills is looking for?" It added: "Furthermore, for a Singapore condominium, is it a reasonable requirement for a Chinese-speaking officer to be deployed at all times? It appears that the intention is for an ethnically Chinese officer to be deployed on a frequent basis at the condominium. This would be race discrimination." As for the limits on age, the association pointed out that there is nothing in the tender document that indicates the basis on which the management would give or withhold its approval to deploy a guard. "It appears there is just an intention for older workers not to be deployed at the site," they said. The association said it would raise the matter with the Tripartite Alliance for Fair and Progressive Employment Practices, as well as the Ministry of Manpower. But it also highlighted a "gap in the law", where "managing agents like Savills and service buyers like Hillview Heights may be able to get away with forcing service providers like security agencies to carry out discriminatory practices". The association said it had raised this with the Manpower Ministry last year and urged that its guidelines on hiring be extended to buyers of outsourced services as well. Currently the fair employment guidelines apply only to employers. More on this topic   Related Story Fair employment guidelines to become law, new tribunal to deal with workplace discrimination   Related Story At last, drawing a legal red line under discriminatory hiring The association's executive director, Mr Ikhsan Suri, said in its press statement that managing agents should "properly advise their clients, the service buyers, on how to fairly, legally and correctly outsource manpower services". "Instead, we have seen that some managing agents encourage and empower buyers to be discriminatory. This is especially disappointing, given that many outsourced service workers are in low-wage professions and should not see any opportunities slip by them due to workplace discrimination," he said. "Security Association Singapore will continue to keep a look out for unfair clauses in tenders and contracts, and highlight them as needed," he added. The Straits Times has contacted Savills Property Management for comment.
